The Marian Alliance is built upon the foundation of Marian University's core Franciscan Values
We believe that all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, etc deserve to be treated with respect and work to create an atmosphere of inclusion.
We seek to mend the divides that exist among us and always respond with forgiveness and love when wronged by others.
We aim to use our voices to speak for the silent and fight against all forms of injustice.
We understand that we have a responsibility to the Marian community and strive to cultivate what we have been given for those who come after us.
Typically, we host Alliance meetings every month where we come together to discuss the current state of our organization, plan future events, and make decisions to improve the experience the MU Alliance provides students. This is only required for members of the Executive Board but is open to all Alliance members. Click here to access the minutes of our meetings.
We organize a wide variety of various events throughout each semester focused on both education on queer topics as well as building up the community in our organization through social events. Some of the events we have held have been our Closet Talks Speaker Series - a virtual event involving an LGBTQ+ Marian alumni sharing their story and experience coming out and living as queer, Netflix Party Movie Nights with queer films such as Moonlight and The Danish Girl, our Trans Day of Remembrance Prayer Service in partnership with Campus Ministry and the Peace and Justice Studies Program, and SO MUCH MORE!
As an SGA organization at Marian University, the Marian Alliance is required to participate in service opportunities every semester. However, our organization seeks to be an active member of the community and participates in many service opportunities. In partnership with local Indianapolis organizations and communities, we strive to volunteer and give back when we can.
The Marian Alliance is committed to ensuring the well-being of Marian students, especially those of the LGBTQ+ community. Through events, social media, meetings, and other means, we provide resources for students on and off campus who are searching for financial assistance, legal guidance, education, counseling, and more. Through our network of alumni and on and off campus partners, we try to share as much information and resources to students who find themselves in different situations. Contact mualliance@marian.edu for questions and any needs you may have - we will do our best to connect you to the appropriate assistance.
Finally, as a queer organization, we aim to promote diversity and inclusion on campus so that all students regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, class, age, and ability feel welcomed and supported here at Marian University. As an organization, we are involved with our members as a community and family and seek to build long-lasting relationships and connect with other organizations and departments on campus to create an atmosphere of compassion and tolerance.
